Egypt Zeppelin Overprints

In 1931, the German Graf Zeppelin flew over Egypt and other countries in the
Near East. Egypt commemorated the flyover by overprinting two stamps "Graf
Zeppelin Avril 1931"

I would appreciate more information about those flights, giving the complete
itinerary, which obviously started in Germany.

You should probably practice with google. Although I was reluctant to do
this simple work "for you", 20 seconds netted some usable results (or so it
seems):

(really the same 2 links):

http://www.kairo.diplo.de/en/06/German-Traces/German__Traces.html
http://www.kairo.diplo.de/en/06/German-Traces/zeppelin__bildergalerie__en.html

http://www.saudiaramcoworld.com/issue/199404/contrary.winds-zeppelins.over.the.middle.east.htm

http://www.egy.com/community/93-01-14.shtml

You can find a carried post card here for $95US (not sure if it's a current
page) :

Or page through the google links for yourself, and/or fiddle with the search
words:

Thank you very much, Nick. I agree with you that I should have Googled, but
I am not an expert at that. The links brought back memories. I was 4 years
old in 1931 when the Zeppelin flew over Jerusalem, and I vividly remember my
awe looking at it. I was unaware of the 1929 flight over Jerusalem, when I
was only two, and my father did not mention that fact to me. What is not
mentioned in the links is that Palestine at both of these times, it was in a
state of rebellion against British rule, and whether for safety reasons or
for not giving the Germans a propaganda coup, they did not allow it to land.

G'day Tony,
I have some really old magazines (WW1) in the attic, and IIRC there is a
couple of
chapters of the Zeppelin craze, whether it is Egypt centric I cannot say.
I'll search for them over the next few weeks, and post my findings.

Thanks, Rod. The links given by Nick Knight gave me a lot of information.
I hope that whatever you will find in your attic will provide some
additional details.

Hi Tony,
I dug out the mags, and they have lots of Zeppelin info,
but only deal with 1914-1917.
They are part of a huge library, ( over 150 issues I believe)
called "The Times History of the War"
Great, detailed mags, just not in your desired picture window.
Sorry.
